This Fire Engine Weathervane comes ready to fit any of our cupolas we sell. To mount the copper weathervane into one of our cupolas all you have to do it put the solid ¾”weathervane rod down through the top of the cupola and through an internal crossmember inside the roof of the cupola. Use a little caulking around the hole to seal the rod and cupola together.
Our larger cupolas have a clamp under the crossmember so that it can lock the rod in place under the cross member. If you are not using a cupola with our Fire Truck Weathervane then please check out our many types of brackets, stands and mounts on our mounts page. If an extended rod is needed to add more height or depth, please use a red thread locker such as Loctite or other brand.
Weathervane Finish
Natural Copper - Our copper weathervane are real copper and will age to a natural patina overtime. The weatherane will turn brown, black, and then patina green. The speed process for which it will patina is competed in accordance with Mother Nature's Wishes. Normally within about 5-7 years it should have a nice green patina forming.
Patina Copper Weathervane
We apply two – three or even four coats of patina chemical to your copper weathervane to give it an instant aged patina look.
After we get a solid looking patina, we add a clear coat glue sealant over the patina so that the patina will adhere to the metal better over time. Each weathervane patina can be slightly different in color, but your weathervane will turn a darker patina over a few weeks as it sits out in the elements.
Please note that patina is not paint – it is an accelerated acid wash solution we apply to help the speed up process of patina to the copper.
Clear Industrial Polyurethane on Copper Weathervane
If selected at checkout, we will apply three coats of Clear Industrial Polyurethane to your weathervane so that the copper will not change colors from brown, black to patina. This Clear Industrial Polyurethane will help keep your weathervane looking new.
This Industrial Polyurethane process can also be done by the weathervane owner by purchasing the industrial polyurethane from a supplier. You can find industrial lacquer from numerous sources.
Every few years you will need to reapply an industrial polyurethane to your weathervane and weathervane parts to keep it looking new.
Over time if not reapplied, mother nature will wear off the industrial polyurethane and change your copper with the elements to a natural patina green. This change will be based on where your weathervane location is located. The warmer states tend to speed up this process so you may have to reapply your clear industrial lacquer every few years to avoid the changes mother nature wishes to make.
Weathervane Mounting
A cupola is the strongest mounting option for any weathervane. If not using a cupola, we do have a variety of mounts to fit your particular weathervane placement.

It can adjust to any degree roof pitch, and can be used on a variety roof lines, ranging from a flat surface to some of the steepest pitches.
BHP003 Black Steel Powder Coated Eave Mount – This mount is black powder coated steel. It is designed to be installed on a flat vertical surface – such as the fascia board, the house siding, the side of a post, the side of a deck, or more!
BHP016 Black Steel Powder Coated Post Mount – Made of black powder coated steel, this mount is designed for flat surfaces. Keep in mind that the base measures 4” L x 4” W. Some potential placements include a 4x4 fence post, a mailbox post, on a deck railing, or even on top of a cupola with a 4” flat top.
BHP009 Extended Adjustable Mount – This mount is made of black powder coated aluminum and sometimes called a ridge vent mount. Much like the adjustable roof mount, this extended mount provides even more possibilities for roof lines. It is made for uneven roofing situations such as cedar shake or over ridge vents. It also works well with cupolas that don’t have the weathervane bracing support system built into the cupola roof – this mount can fit right over it.
BHP020 – Black Steel Powder Coated Extended Eave Mount – Made of black powder coated steel, this mount has a longer arm than the BHP003 Eave Mount. It holds your weathervane farther from the mounting surface. It is perfect for mounting on the fascia board, or even underneath it, depending how far the soffit juts out.
BHP017 Stainless Steel Post Mount – This stainless steel mount is perfect for flat surfaces. Keep in mind that the base measures 4” L x 4” W. BHP048 Black Steel Powder Coated Three Prong Mount – This mount is made with black powder coated steel, and it has three prong legs. These legs are manually adjusted by the installer to fit the pitch of the roof. This mount may be referred to as a hexagon mount, and it does well with a three-sided gazebo or turret.
BHP044 Black Steel Powder Coated Four Prong Mount – This black powder coated steel mount is made with four legs. These legs need to be adjusted manually by the installer to match the desired roof pitch. It is a great turret mount. This mount can also go on cupolas that weren’t crafted with a weathervane balance support system inside its roof.
BHP013 Stainless Steel V Mount – This mount is a heavy-duty version of the BHP006 Adjustable Mount. It is made of stainless steel with two prongs. The legs need to be manually bent by the installer to match the desired roof pitch. The stainless steel construction makes this mount great for use around salt water or wet environments.
BHP021 Stainless Steel Extended Eave Mount - Made stainless steel, this mount has a longer arm than the BHP014 Eave Mount. It holds your weathervane farther from the mounting surface. BHP047 Stainless Steel Four Prong Mount – This mount is identical in function to its steel counterpart, BHP048, but this stainless steel construction makes the mount great around salt water or wet environments.
